The good news for parents (and students) is that these two tests are remarkably similar. The main difference will come in the Verbal Reasoning section: SSAT students are tested with analogies, while ISEE makes use of sentence completions.
If that seems like a trivial difference to you… well, it is. The vocabulary being tested is the same, but the format of the questions varies slightly.
One other small point: there are three levels of ISEE, while there are only two levels of SSAT. In practice, though, this doesn’t matter much: although scores are given, it’s the percentile rank that matters most – and your child is ranked relative to children of the exact same grade in school.
