FAQ
What type of students need this course?
- All students in the 9th or 10th grade
- Those attending a school where classes are not taught entirely in English
- Teenswho speak very little English at home or with friends
- Anyone needing extra help in reading and writing - even native speakers!
When should students take SAT foundations?
This course should be taken before our standard SAT course. For those who will take TOEFL iBT, we advise that students complete TOEFL testing before enrolling in SAT foundations.
Are students ready to take the SAT after the SAT Foundations course?
No. This program is designed to build skills that will be needed in our standard SAT course. In SAT foundations, we lay the groundwork so that students can better understand the more advanced reading, writing and math concepts taught later. Students can expect to see dramatic improvements by taking both courses in sequence.
How is this course taught?
Just as with our standard SAT course, the class size is kept at a maximum of 12 students, and the American instructor will teach entirely in English. And, as with any New Horizons course, free extra help and supplemental activities allow teachers to meet students' individual needs.
Do you measure students' progress throughout the course?
Yes. We have developed diagnostic tests, shortened versions of the SAT but with similar questions, which we administer at the beginning, middle and end of each course.
