The SAT Subject Tests are a series of exams that measure knowledge in a particular academic subject: math, biology, French, or US history, for example. While we encourage students only to take the tests that they are most prepared for, most schools will expect to receive at least a math score, in addition to one other subject.

Each subject test is one hour; although students pay for the right to take up to three exams, a student may elect to take as few as one Subject Test.

The content of each exams varies widely, of course, but there’s one important thing to keep in mind: these tests are written at the honors level. So technically, you need not have taken an AP or IB course in that subject to do well on the exam.

The SAT Subject Tests are easier than AP/IB exams, though they may test slightly different topics.
